Vidblox HRT Series: Securely Extend Transport and View HDMI Video

Vidblox HTR (VHTR) module is a member of the Vidblox product family that adds HDMI or DVI (with HDMI/DVI adapter) input and output signal processing capability to compliment the DVI/VGA capability offered by the Vidblox SL and NE transmitter and receiver products. VHTR and SL/NE modules are fully compatible with one another in transmitter/receiver pairing applications.

Vidblox modules offer a wide range of capabilities for transport media conversion, format conversion, and media extension solutions in production, PRO-A/V and broadcast applications. Each VHTR module is capable of functioning in either transmit or receive mode, as selected through control software, to transport HDMI or DVI-D signals over fiber, coax cable, or both with the performance characteristics of high definition digital video; based on industry standard SMPTE transports for HD/3G-SDI.

Engineered for 3G-SDI high resolution image performance, the PESA VidBlox series offers perfect pixel-for-pixel transmission of DVI computer video images up to 1920X1200 - including 1080p/60.

Vidblox HTR in TX Mode
Operating as a transmitter (TX) device, VHTR modules convert HDMI video with input resolutions up to 1080p to a source of SMPTE compliant, sync-locked, broadcast quality SDI video in resolutions up to 3Gbps. Each TX module can provide up to four individual outputs of the SDI video signal. Transmitter modules may be used stand-alone to convert an HDMI input signal (up to 1920x1200) to a SMPTE compliant SDI video output that may be used for viewing, broadcast, or distributed through a router. As a TX module, the VHTR accepts an input of analog sync reference for frame synchronization of the SDI video output.

In addition to video conversion, each VHTR accepts unbalanced stereo audio and embeds the signal for transport over the output transport stream. Also included on the output transport video is resolution format data which, when connected to a VHTR configured as an RX module, can properly communicate specific resolutions and format data of the received signal.

Vidblox HTR in RX Mode
Operating as a receiver (RX) device, VHTR modules may be used stand-alone to convert a source of SMPTE compliant SD, HD or 3G SDI video into a high resolution HDMI or DVI-D output, at an output resolution up to 1920X1200.

In signal extender applications, at least two VHTR modules are used as a transmitter/receiver set to provide transport of an HDMI or DVI-D signal source to a remote destination, at distances up to 10 km using fiber or 80 m with coax, over a full SMPTE compliant SDI video transport link, with embedded audio, in a variety of user selectable formats. At the receiver module, the SDI transport signal is converted back to an HDMI output signal, at a user-selectable resolution,
with embedded audio.

Secure HDCP Encryption
Vidblox HTR allows encryption of the SDI output signal from the TX module using a PESA proprietary, secure encryption algorithm. If the HDMI input source is HDCP encrypted, SDI encryption is always automatically enabled by the Vidblox TX module and can not be disabled by the user. The encrypted SDI transport signal is non-viewable, and can only be decrypted by a VHTR or VHTR-OG (openGear 3.0) module configured as a receiver device. Once decrypted by a VHTR RX module, the HDMI output signal from the receiver will, with full integrity, retain HDCP encryption of the originating input signal source at the TX module. With a non-HDCP- encrypted HDMI input signal, you may choose whether or not to apply encryption to the SDI output signal.

Versatile I/O Connection Options
In addition to the BNC connectors for direct coax cable connection of SDI video input or output signals, every VHTR module also provides a dual channel carrier for SFP input or output modules. Modules are available for a variety of signal types and formats to greatly expand the input and output capability of the VHTR.

    In addition to SMPTE standard formats, Vidblox HTR also provides a software selectable output option, PESA’s VB Link, that allows pixel accurate transport of input signal resolutions greater than 1080p, with no image scaling, over a non-viewable, PESA proprietary, transport signal that maintains compliance with the SMPTE 424M transport standard.

    VB Link supports input resolutions up to 1920X1200 and, by pairing a VHTR in transmit mode or a PESA SL-3G Vidblox transmitter (TX) module with a VHTR in receive mode or a PESA 3G-SL Vidblox receiver (RX) module as a set, provides maximum resolution and full pixel accurate transport when a viewable transport signal at 720p and 1080i is not required.

    Vidblox TX modules allow user-selection of SMPTE viewable or non-viewable transport video output.

    Control System
    Setup, control and monitoring of VHTR modules may be performed using PESA’s available Cattrax software control application running on a host PC. Modules communicate with Cattrax over an Ethernet network; or a single module may be connected directly to the host PC using a USB connection. Once a module is configured, it is not necessary to maintain connection to the host PC or to the Ethernet network for operation.
